Looking for a job? Q & A

Q:  I will be applying for several jobs and I have a hearing loss.  At what point do I have to disclose my disability -- before or after the job offer.

A:  A job applicant doesn't ever have to disclose his disability.  But by not disclosing your hearing loss, you cannot ask for accommodations.  You don't have to mention your hearing loss during the interviewing process, but once a job offer is made, you must disclose it to receive proper accommodations.

The employer cannot ask you if you have a disability during the job interview.   However, the interviewer can ask you how you would perform specific job functions required by the job.
