Identify and use the language medium that is appropriate for the child. Some hard of
hearing children benefit from having supplementary hearing devices that range from hearing
aids to amplification equipment to ensure communication in the classroom. Besides these, a
child may need special services to increase the use of residual hearing. For example,
control of background noise and improved acoustics may be essential to receive full
benefits from a hearing aid. Improved lighting may be necessary, speech therapy, auditory
graining, and media support services (such as captioned TV and films).
